The Atlantic announced its top eight choices for the Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Mayors Challenge. The City of San Francisco is in the running for a $5MM prize, which would be used for its proposed program to put locals to work (and be recognized for their contributions with badges). The magazine writes:

Why We Like It: While the challenges of implementing such a program would no doubt be great, this is perhaps the most ambitious project proposed in the Mayors Challenge. Shifting job-seekers away from intimidating employment centers and toward realistic on-site training opportunities has enormous potential.
